By the
15th century St Peter's was in need of major repairs, and both the
upper part of the tower and the nave were rebuilt. It was at this
time that the pinnacles, battlements and gargoyles were added to the
tower.
At the
end of the 15th century there is an early record of a miscreant vicar
... 'pardoned for offences including treason, counterfeiting money
and breaking out of prison'.
