At the
end of the 14th century the Steeple Aston Church tower was built,
almost certainly replacing an earlier one, probably by Sir Thomas
Abberbury, the then owner of the manor. In 1756 the church tower was
rough cast, and that was not removed until 1867. After 1945 a new
electrically wound clock was put in the tower, and the 18th century
clockworks given to the University Science Museum.
