The nave
of St Michael, looking towards the chancel beyond the screen. The
chancel arch was probably widened in the 13th century when the church
was remodelled.
The responds
on either side of the chancel arch retain Norman work, two shafts
with scallop capitals and a band of palmette decoration.
There
are no memorial plaques on the church's interior walls, but there
are a few memorials in the floor of the chancel. One reads thus:
Here
lieth the body of
William
Sheppard, Gent
who departed this life
the 6th day of March A. Domini 1671
Another
simpler memorial reads:
Gul
Cumming MD
9 June 1746
There
is also a brass memorial to William Fox and his wife, dated 1495.
