In the 14th century, and perhaps even earlier, this enormous tithe barn, situated to the west of Stanway House and visible from the road leading in from Stanton, was built by the Abbots at Tewkesbury to store their great and small tithes (taxes).

In more recent times the building has served the community in different ways, as a venue for concerts and meetings.
