To the
right of the altar, on the east nave wall, is this elegant memorial
for William Wilson. It reads thus:
To
the memory of
William Wilson Esqre
who departed this life
on the 24th day of August 1821,
in the 65th year of his age.
This monument
is erected by his afflicted family,
as well under the influence of gratitude
to the most high for the blessing which they received
from his advice and example,
as in admiration of the many singular excellences
of his eminently Christian character.
When
the ear heard him, then it blessed him,
and when the eye saw him, it gave witness to him,
because he delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless,
and him that had none to help him;
the blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon him,
and he caused the widow's heart to sing for joy,
he put on righteousness, and it clothed him,
his judgement was as a robe and diadem,
he was eyes to the blind,
and feet was he to the lame,
he was a father to the poor,
and the cause which he knew not, he searched out.
