There
are a significant number of Austin family graves in the churchyard.
This one is for John Augustin Austin and his wife Elizabeth.
John
was born at Farthinghoe, and owned the Kings Arms in Bicester, Oxfordshire,
until his death. Elizabeth was born in Gloucestershire. According
to the 1881 census, all of John and Elizabeth's children were born
at Farthinghoe, before the family moved to Bicester. They had three
daughters - Florence May born 1851, Ellen Letitia born 1856, and May
born 1860.
The inscription
of John and Elizabeth's gravestone reads thus:
In memory of
John
Augustin Austin
who died May 26, 1881.
Aged 56 years.
The memory of the just shall live
Also of
Elizabeth Austin
wife of the above
who died April 26, 1886.
Aged 57 years.
