Berkswell
means a spring or well of a man called Beorcol
or Bercul. Bercul's well can still be seen near the churchyard gate
of St John Baptist. Berkswell was known as Berchewelle in 1086.
To
travel by road to Berkswell, use the M42 and exit east at Junction
6 on to the A45. Within a mile there is a junction with the A452,
and turn south on to that road. Continue down the A452 for approximately
two miles, and follow the signs on your left for Berkswell. This
is possibly the most direct route from a motorway, but depending
on which direction you are coming from, there are various options
for cross-country routes, such as if you are travelling northbound
on the M40, exit north at Junction 15, Warwick, on to the A46. When
you reach Kenilworth, turn north on to the A452, and after passing
Balsall Common, look for signposts to Berkswell on your right.
