Stafford
means a ford by a landing-place. It was known
as Stadford in 1086. Staffordshire, meaning the district of Stafford,
was first referred to in the 11th century.

travel by road to Stafford, which is located to the north of Birmingham
and to the south of Newcastle-under-Lyme, use the M6, and exit at
either Junctions 13 or 14.
