Rugeley means a woodland clearing on or near a ridge. In 1086 Rugeley was known as Rugelie.

To travel by road to Rugeley, travelling north on the M6 from Birmingham, exit at Junction 12, at Cannock. Turn east on to the A5, and then north on to the A460, and finally north on to the A51 directly to Rugeley. Travelling south on the M6 from Newcastle-under-Lyme, exit at Junction 14, at Stafford. Use the Stafford ring road, and turn south-east on to the A513, and finally south on to the A51 directly to Rugeley.
